I have a funny anecdote that explains why we use the Scientific Method and Occam’s Razor (the simplest answer is usually the right one… even if more complicated).
This morning I found a sequin in my shower. Now, to be sure I know it had to be my daughter’s. But for a couple weeks at night I’ve been smelling cigarette smoke at night in my house. The simplest answer for that is that someone is smoking outside and the wind is carrying it into my house. But still… all these news reports (and my natural paranoia) talk to me about hidden people living in your house. Crazy? I saw a man was living in a woman’s car trunk!
So what to do? I get a flashlight, open the attic, and conduct a search… And lo and behold I feel outside wind come in when I go up the stairs. Nothing else… just the homeowner’s past…
Point being a small experiment gave the mind a rest. And as I go on vacation (Arwen will be taking patients while I’m gone for 2 weeks), I’m reminded that Occam’s Razor doesn’t guarantee that it is a SIMPLE answer, just simplest. It might be more steps… but it’s more reasonable.
Now I say that to say this. you’re here to get our help. Trust us. Trust the age and wisdom of this medicine, even though it sees the Universe differently. I am different, and it is different. Don’t compare us to western biomedicine, I’m tested in it but it is a different thing. Please don’t expect us the way you expect them, or even chiropractic or massage to work. It isn’t fair to us, it, or you (and your money). Come in and give us a fresh canvas to work with. And please, do not project your own fears, anxieties, etc. onto us. Usually the simplest answer, even the one you don’t want to think about, is the right one. The people trying to help you are pretty much never the issue.
